AUXOIS, LAND OF ART
AND HISTORY

Auxois is officially recognized as a "Land of Art and History," and you can uncover its treasures by traversing its country roads or cycling along the Burgundy Canal.

Here, one fascinating visit leads to another, with each experience being unique. Discover a medieval village, a famous candy factory, delve into the Battle of Alesia, admire a Renaissance gem, explore the ramparts of Semur-en-Auxois, or visit various castles and Romanesque churches. There's plenty to delight curious minds and lovers of old stones alike.

The Morvan, a small taste of Canada

Leaving the limestone slopes of the Auxois region, you'll enter the Morvan Regional Natural Park, also known as the "Mont Noir" (Black Mountain) due to its dark granite formations. Get ready to discover its serene ponds, majestic heights, dramatic escarpments, and fortified spurs. You'll find secluded places of worship, often hidden deep within the deciduous forests where the Celtic influence is still discernible. Explore numerous springs, once considered miraculous in ancient times. And, most notably, immerse yourself in the forests of beech, hornbeam, oak, and chestnut – now also home to fir, black pine, and spruce – these forests were, and still are, the very essence of the Morvan.

The famous Burgundy vineyard

Established in Gallo-Roman times and further developed by the industrious monks of Cîteaux, Burgundy's vineyards have been producing delectable wines since the Middle Ages. These wines were first introduced to the world by their then-lords, the great Dukes of the West.

The Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits are delightful slopes to explore. You must traverse the vineyards and, throughout your journey, admire the villages with their prestigious names: Volnay, Pommard, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and more.

A must-visit destination is the city of Beaune.
